ebers-thingey BA6 Heater

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by bluething, Apr 11, 2013.

  1. has anyone got one under their bus?? while i was knocking my steering arms off the other day I had a bit of a nosey under the bus, in particular the odd array of boxes, pipes and wires around the middle of the pickup. There's a label on one of them that says eberspacher BA6 (i think that's what it says. It looks complete but i cant find any controls for it in the cab. Anyone got any experience of these? I wouldnt mind seeing if i can get it going.

ps mine works perfectly now after a bit of tinkering, got any pictures, there should be a control unit behind the passenger side kick panel a reset under the dash sort of behind the clock, are the fuel pump lines etc still in place, is there a green knob on the dash, you far from Portsmouth?

  4. from what i can see, I have the big tin box underneath, the blower, pump and spark plug etc. I couldnt see a fuel line but then i didnt look too close as i was taking a break from belting the steering arms. mine's a lefty and a bit of surfing has confimed a mysterious box i found under the dash that turns out to be the reset thing (little red switch on it) and aload of wores coming out of the top. I dont have the knob that you turn though. someone at some stage has had a really good mess around with the system as when i got it, loads of stuff had been disconnected. blower motor in the engine disconnected.... heater cable snapped. The switch on the heater cable was missing it's wires (not sure where they are meant to go now). I'll take some full pics this weekend, it needs to come off to get a bit of a paint up so I'll go through everything then.

I'm in Southend in essex these days so it's a bit of a trek..... especialy since the pickup doesnt have any front wheels on it at the mo ;)

no nee to remove it, chances are its either the fuel pump or the spark plug. most people pull them out because they cant fix them, mine wasn't working but I went through it and now it does, wasn't to hard, my van is Swedish and yours looks to be too.

  6. I want to get at the body work behind it and give it a coat of paint before the rust sets in. If i take it off I'd want to check all of the seals and stuff. it drinks enough petrol as it is without dropping it all over the road :)
It'd be nice to get the heat going as it's the one thing that really lets it down on long drives. I drove 80 miles in January, 20 miles in my window fell off it's riser bar on the m25. it was -2 outside and the van had no heating. to say it was nippy was an understatement. It took me a good 4 hours to warm up. I will report back with pics.

  7. Cheers Keith! much appreciated!
Anyone know where I can get a control knob?

  8. that's the kiddy, I'm bidding on it ;)
Also found a place in Gemrnay that can supply but e-bay is looking cheaper at the moment

  9. A couple of weeks ago there was one for £20 buy it now which never sold :(
BTW I think your type of heater is the one described at the back of the Haynes manual
