Of course they are noisy. So is a propex. So is a 240v fan heater. Hook up and convector heater is silent. In reality, you'll run it for 10 mins when your kids go to bed and same in the morning. The only person I've met who leaves it on all night was Birdy.
No, when i say noisy i mean frickin noisy. Davidofts van was 10 yards away and i couldnt hear my propex for the noise of his eber. I can run propex all night doesnt wake me up. Like a small kitten purring by comparison.
You could feel the heat from your van too , they aren't bad, noise wise, propex is quieter but produce much less heat.
I fitted a silencer to mine which made a difference equivalent to fitting a silencer on your engine. Dead quiet now.
What's the silencer like? Eber specific or a retrofit? I'm sure I read a little on your thread but it was like a rally of comments I skim read.
I have mine on right now. Can barely hear the "rocket" bit, just the fan, but sound deadening conduit is available to quieten that down, @Dicky was looking into it. When the chips are down and you're cold, a bit of a whizzy noise is a small price to pay. I've gone from chillly to toasty while I typed this.
I like a drone when I'm chilling. A fan noise would send me to sleep. Tbh I was looking from the perspective of annoying neighbours lol.
Even better, I bet 5 mins would have it snug. Para has the best really, propane convector heater, no fan, no elec, no noise.
sorry, late to this thread as i was away camping Yes i have a factory fitted ba6 that hadn't run for prob 20 years. @davidoft sorted it out for me. @PSG no need to worry about your "regular" heating via the heat exchangers - that still works fine and isn't affected by the fact that it has to run through the same pipework that the eber uses - mine works fine, nice and hot - didn't work when i got the van but just needed cables adjusting and all the crap clearing out from the tubes (rodent nests, insects, muck and dust etc). In fact when you use the van in the winter i often run the eber for 10 mins or so whilst the van is on the drive, warms the inside and also gets all the pipe work under the van toasty warm, so when you start driving switch the eber off and the hx heating has an easier job to do 'cos the pipes are already hot. Although you can run the eber when you're driving, in my experience you don't do this 'cos its just too hot - as above, it'll melt your face its so hot and the extra fan thing makes your front vents feel like a couple of hair dryer set on max. No idea how the noise compares to a propex, but the eber is so hot you only need it on for a few minutes before bedtime to get the van warm - sleep with it off under a bunch of blankets etc and maybe then also run it in the morning when you're getting up. It's so hot that you never have it on for long - i'd certainly never consider leaving it on overnight. I have a battery powered carbon monoxide detector we don't generally keep in the van, but i've had that in there many times with the eber on and its not picked up anything - why would it? only the hot air gets blown into the van, the combustion and exhausty type stuff is all happening ouside the van. When i first got my bus i also considered ditching the eber for a propex, really glad i didnt. btw - i also have a cheapo elec fan heater so if you're on hookup you can get the van warm using the electricity you've already paid for rather than use your own petrol. HTH.
There's a decent campsite just five minutes up the road from David's shop - i've stayed down there in the past when the van was getting some fettling, no spooning required.
I still have floor and the heater grill is perfectly fine with being stood on Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
