Also before I go cuttin holes, do the lights fit from the outside like a late or do they sandwich the panel between the lense and the light bucket?

Mine are slightley closer to the lid
And yes they are sandwiched between the panel
I bought new ones but they are crap im going to change them for old ones this summer

  3. I fitted an early wrap around to my old late and didn't change the arches the middle bolted in holes i drilled through the chassie and sides i bolted right through the whole step with long bolts, not the best way but looked alright. It would be better with crossover arches with the side mounts built in

  4. Also you can put the lights where you want if its not meant to have them anyway, i think it counts as custom, they might look good a bit further out

  5. Might worth a post on prototype bay, but agree they look better.
When did the flaring of the rear arches come in as that maybe what makes then look better.

They need to be on a flat surface thou or they wont be water tight

  7. Yeah, still on the flat, just a bit further out than a standard early maybe and inch or two, where the templates are in the pic don't look to bad, still flat enough there, or just nudge them in a bit till it is

  8. Cheers people. I thought the properly place makes them too close. I think where the templates are now is about as wide as they can go

  9. Post up when its done as I've been planning this since kevs van turned up with them, how did you get rid of your old light holes and shaping?

  10. I'll keep this tread updated with progress. I made a template of the shape of the rear corner and gave my friend some steel to roll at his work as he works for an engineering company. Then I just cut out the original light area and abit more and welded the rolled metal into place

  11. Thanks for posting pics, yes would like to see them once they are in, it seems to join together quite well once the the late light surround shape is removed

  12. Been a while but finally an update for this thread. Lights are now in.

Once the corners were completely welded up I spent ages working out the best position for the lamps then marked out a grid on the panel to make sure they both lined up correctly. Next step was to make a template of the seal slightly smaller than it needed to be. I think set about cutting out the hole for the rear light, slowly enlarging it until the light and seal fitted snug. Once I was happy with that one, I made a template of the hole and transferred it to the other side and checked alignment before cutting.

Here's the end result and I have to say I'm really happy :) although the offside lamp needs a bit of adjusting still

  15. Kev, I can see what you mean but they are level. I think they look uneven in the pic because the right one is only screwed in at the top as I cut the lower tab abit too short :(
