Dub Odyssey has been going since 2001, but this is the first ever camping festival at Wentworth Woodhouse. Don't miss it.

  8. During Glastonbury we are showcasing the great bands you can hear on your doorstep at Dub Odyssey: 14th -16th July 2023.

    Sunday 16th July: Orchidelia #orchideliaband
Playing a split set, in between the days activities.
Modern rock favourites with a hint of 60s psychedelia!
One of the band members has been coming to Dub Odyssey for a number of years, so we are delighted that he will now be performing on stage!

  10. There may well be whippets in the dog show!

I'm sure one of our food vendors could 'produce' a coal sandwich if it tickles your fancy

Lol, they've done that already there Dunc..

The house sits almost on top of the Barnsley Seam. The family owned the Elsecar pits and the Heritage centre just down the road has the only surviving Newcomen Beam engine that's still in its original location. Plus a short steam railway and the remnants of the canal used for transport.

Mel was brought up in the next village up, Hoyland, but one nan lived in Elsecar, the other in Wentworth village itself. All the families were in some way or another connected to the pit or the 'big house'.
Wentworth itself is in a stunning location and the house is one of the biggest in Europe. Its got a really interesting history.
    Well worth a visit.

My own back yard, my family is from Harley and Thorpe Hesley, sadly the steam train has gone ( along with the track ).. I understand that it was down to Rotherham Council’s short sightedness.
Learned to drive on the old concrete roads of the open cast mine.

Well what a shame. I've just read the train was mothballed in 2020 and now the area that was the track is to be storage or something.
    Another bit of heritage gone...:(

it was lovely this morning, then at around 10:30am the rain came again......Mrs Jules is pushing for me to pack up so she can go home as she keeps looking at the weather forecast.....my cunning plan is to start drinking so I have the excuse I'm too drunk to drive.

Camping is the dog stretching out as we watch TV whilst my jeans try to dry out with the rising heat from the back of the 3 way fridge.

The blessing is that as we have not put up an awning or pop-up gazebo the portable 3 way fridge containing the beer is within easy reach from inside the van.....yes I currently have 2 fridges running in my van and the vents are in the windows and floor vents are clear. I also turn the gas off to the portable fridge at night as it should retain its temperature for several hours when not being opened.

Was this the 'neighbour' that left after having a "disagreement" with his family?
