But the petrol comes from the filling station mostly clean and your bus adds the rust in the tank.
Halfords do a metal bodied filter.

  2. I find it better to keep the fuel filter in the garage, to stop it clagging up with muck.

that place was good 15 years ago then they got to busy and standards went down had some paint done on my old van that was shocking so not been there since

My filter is in the engine bay on the low pressure side of the pump so its not under pressure and protects the pump
i use good quality ones and its fixed to the body

  5. i bought a glass one, i had it on for few months and swapped it back to plastic, thing with em ,you can undo em to clean the insert, but they have a rubber washer either end and mine was tight when i fitted it, but when checking hoses etc, the damn thing was not tight, whether the rubber had given a little not sure. So really on a glass filter you have 4 poss leaking points, not just the 2 on plastic one. Sorry for long winded reply.

  6. Don't use the glass ones... mine actually came apart a few weeks ago - somehow unscrewed itself - and I was very very very lucky... it was between the pump and carb. The glass screw type are simply dangerous.

  7. I put a dollop of Putoline antioxidant in the tank if the van isn't used for a week or two just to keep the condensate problem at bay...hence a rust free tank. :)

I have it on good authority that if you set fire to the petrol before putting it in your van you eradicate 100% the danger of a leak, leave alone said leak catching fire.

It's incomprehensible to me that this fact has not been shared more widely with the general public, imagine the misery it could have saved.

    Blame the government, I do.

  11. So people, do we put the fuel filter straight after the tank outlet in a vertical fashion, a horizontal fashion or do we go past the hose-retaining clip on the underside and mount it just before it attaches to the metal pipe?

I don't really want it dripping onto anything hot down there though? Would make the exercise pointless!

Mine was in the line over the gearbox

  13. Apparently there are two clips there which you can use? But I thought the clip was on the 'roof' i.e. bodywork beneath the tank.

    Sounds about right.
Clip it to the floor above the gearbox.

  15. I keep my oil and fuel can in the engine bay. Never had any issues. The only issue with the plastic filter is the risk of a pipe coming off or the filter detaching and melting. Both scenarios are taken care of with good maintenance so shouldn't be an issue
    :)

  16. Horizontal right after the tank outlet. You may even have clip holes for it in the "ceiling". Hose needs clipping as it goes over the transmission. Don't put it near the exhaust!

  17. Can I just check, inbetween tank and first clip or inbetween first and second clip (directly above gearbox)?

  18. is that president putoline ?

  19. Also, in the engine bay the clips on the fuel pump go tight but you can still move the hose with fingers. Rotate and pull it off if you try harder. can't get it to not move without making the hose bulge (not good). this ok?

  20. Between tank and first clip. You may even find holes for additional clips for the filter near the tank outlet, if you're keen.

That's not particularly good. Either you've got the wrong gauge hose (likely, if the hose is bulging) or the wrong size clips. I replaced the hose from pump to carb recently and I had to wrestle to get the buggers off. A bulgy hose won't be sealing properly.
