Double Top new fabric lining

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by bumble bus, Dec 13, 2023.

  1. The old carpet in my Devon double top was falling apart and disintegrating.

I have removed the old fabric (still need to clean the glue off) but I am wondering if I should insulate with closed cell foam DoDo mat or similar before reapplying some stretch carpet.

Has anyone done this job recently, any advice welcome Thanks

  2. I’d just carpet it with four way stretch fella
Your not going to get much use out of the insulation when the other three sides are canvas.

  3. Thanks for the feedback, it’s a good point it won’t do much when the roof is up.
I was thinking it might protect the carpet from condensation when the roof is down.
I think you are right, I will just go for the carpet directly on the roof, the last one was on there for 44 years!
    thank again

  5. I wanted the lining to look original & found liningdirect.com who do soft trim ribbed fire resistant which gives it that cord look.
If not bothered about looking original I think Para's idea about 4 way stretch would be easier to apply.

I did mine a few months ago with stretch carpet, so easy to apply with aerosol glue, looks great and is really cheap.
I’m pretty confident it will stop, or certainly reduce any condensation. My roof previously had no lining, just bare fibreglass.

A quick tip if your going to use spray glue make sure you use the high temp stuff

Mine had 4way stretch carpet fitted using the glue they offer on EBay in the “deals”.
Cures condensation and 10 years on, still attached.

  9. Thanks for all the advice, not too worried about the original look, so made it easier by using 4 way stretch carpet with high temp glue. Very pleased with the results, hopefully stays put!
    Thanks for all the advice!

  11. Agreed ! looks really good .I really enjoy doing large jobs like that away from mechanical or metal related ones . I find it a lot more visually pleasing and gives you an incentive to tackle the next job .
