Dormobile roof window seals

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by optimistic, Mar 3, 2016.

  1. I'm attempting to fit the roof glass on my dormy roof, as far as I'm aware the glass which I removed is original and did fit as I personally removed it.

The new seals are from dormobile and are the same as panel conversion seals with the insert strip. I've read most of the threads on here about people struggling with these but I can't help but think somethings not quite right with mine. I battled with the glass and finally got it in the seal all the way around, it's just so ridiculously tight the gap for the insert has basically disappeared!

It's so tight that a flat blade screw driver barely pushes in the gap.

Is this normal or are the seals a bit wider and making the hole seem to small? If it is normal how on earth am I meant to get the insert in?

The seals I removed didn't have an insert on either side and the glass was in really tight.

Appreciate any input, hopefully I'm not gonna get a list of replies saying open the window hole 5mm all round

That's pretty standard, most of the filler is below the surface, have you got the tool for the insert ?

  3. Yeah but not really sure how to get the insert started off?

Get the tool in the groove and push the insert into the widened part made by the tool from the front then push the tool along whilst pushing the insert in, use lube in the groove and on the insert.

  5. That's what I was attempting maybe I need more lube and Barry White playing :D
