Door Locks

  1. Hi all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a set of lock cylinders compatible with the T2 camper? I don't want to spend hundreds on the handles as well!

I've been looking around and can't seem to find anything but complete kits with handles..

Any help would be appreciated as currently, I have 2 keys for the van and they don't even work in two of the locks!

    Cheers,
    Perez..

  3. Custom and commercial offer a service to rebuild the barrels if you don't want to do it yourself

I suggest you match them to the ignition key if it's the same type. The ignition barrel can be tricky to remove.
Getting them all out is more difficult than re-wafering them and it's fun.

  6. Hi, I can only give you my experience and it certainly is gospel :)) I had locks on my delivery van but no keys, as I wanted to keep originality wherever I could I looked up online and found a key maker for the locks I had I just needed to get the code of the side of the lock, I did this, sent away for a key and to my amazement the key fitted all locks that I had all bar one, the one that had the code on, I found later on after many days of WD40 that the key still didn’t work this lock, however when tapped the key when it was inserted into the lock, it suddenly went in and opened the lock, I guess this was years of crud accumulated within the cylinder... and for £7.99 it was worth the gamble ...hope you get on ok

  7. I'm just making my bus "one key" it had after market cab door handles which used a different profile key, sliding door lock had seized, tail gate, ignition and noisy cupboard lid were the same. For the
Slider lock I found a tatty second hand handle, cleaned and dismantled, re keyed, reassembled and job done. Door the cab door handles I found one on eBay and one from an old door I picked up. If you persevere you can often get the lock to turn with the wrong key, which I did, clean and rekey.
There is plenty of info both on here and thesamba on how to rekey a lock, where to find original key codes and with patience you will have yourself a complete set, it is a bit of a fiddle but a good project.
Incedentally when cleaning bits don't use strong acid, I forgot that the casting are Mg/Zn or similar and boy did they fizz:):)
All back together now and the wife can now open the passenger door.
Also had lock issue due to a broken spring in the mechanism, £3.85 plus same again in postage., I didn't fancy that so with the aid of a 26thou guitar string I made one which is working fine.
Just go slow and research on the net, a satisfying job

  9. I got a full set of new wafers from Dave at dubkeys, full instructions that were easy to follow.

  10. Thanks for all the advice people!
So far I've taken apart one of the locks which doesn't work and found that the wafers are too small for either key to completely fit through... So I know for sure that despite being gummed up with muck, it is definitely a case of rekeying or new as opposed to a good clean up. Annoyingly the ignition key doesn't quite fit in the lock cylinder, so I need to figure out which key I go with moving forward...
