Door hinges - expert advice needed

  1. I have a 1974 bus and have just bought a replacement door courtesy of Ebay - quite a good door to be fair.

Problem - my hinges are countersunk and appear slightly larger than the hinges on the replacement door - the holes are also threaded so I assume the whole set up is different. I have seen advertised conversions for new to old hinges but a) Do these work and b) is it worth the hassle am I better off looking for a door with the correct hinges.

If you know a bit about this or have overcome similar please let me know ?

  2. You've got early hinges and a late door. You can buy a shim and pin kit to convert the new door so it'll fit your van. I think jk stock them. When you punch the old pins out make sure you support the part of the hinge that's welded to the door or you'll bend or break it if the pins don't shift easily. Also check the door gaps before you get it sprayed once you've changed the hinges, you may need to bend them a bit to get the gaps right.

  3. And this conversion will deffinately allow a later door to fit an earlier van - the description seems to suggest the other way around (early door to late van ?)
