Door cards and panels

  1. Just a quick question,
I bought a complete set of door cards over a year ago for my van, at the time I probably did t even realise that I owned a panel van! So the cards could easily be for a camper not a panel van. Just checking the cards that fit onto the side of the van over the rear wheel arches, they appear approx 2" to high

Does anybody know if panel van windows and subsequent inner panel below window are lower than on a normal van? If so am I ok just to cut them down to size?

Also while I am talking differences, would you expect a panel van to have a walk through? My van is registered as a 79 panel van!
    Thanks Andy :)

  2. Hi Andy... I haven't seen a panelvan conversion up close, but looking at your photos, I'd say there is a slight difference. As you can see from the photo below, on my bus, the cards come to the line shown with the red arrow, which is indeed a couple of inches above the 'lip' shown in your photo, which you can also see below. I'm guessing you'll either have to trim yours to fit below the lip or think of a way of closing off the top of the cards, where there will otherwise be a gap of half an inch or so.

  3. Hi Andy
I have found the same problem. See pictures on my thread here. http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/oscar-the-super-viking.35283/page-2

What I have done is left them high (as this hides the awkward / ugly ledge) and to fit an armrest the full length. I will try and post some pics tonight of the arm rest I am making - think of it as an L shape which overhangs the panel, hiding the gap.

  4. Thanks MK bay
That is really helpful! I might just drop mine down to fit just under the lip as the bodywork above it is in good condition and I like the contrast of the paint and the door card! :)

  5. Thanks gbcamper
    That is also really helpful!
I would like to leave some of the metalwork visible! I think I might try and cut my panels down to the lip which is about 2" below the top of the panel at the moment! :)

  6. Yeah I considered that however my lip has a sharp edge to it and a bit of a groove so I decided to hide it. I am upholstering at the moment - over the next couple of weeks it will be done - keep up with my thread for progress and you can see how I handled it.

I have realised that panel van conversions present unique problems that buses just don't have!

  7. I am going to get mine upholstered once I get them to fit! I think I will probably cut them down enough so the holes line up. Then just see what I have left, if necessary finish the top off with a bead or something similar, I guess you can't by door cards for panel vans? :)

  8. Has anybody else got any piccies of panel vans back half upholstery for me to have a look at please? Thanks :)
