  1. hey all!! 8)
i joined a couple of months back and since have asked lots of silly questions and had lots of help from you guys!! so thought i would do a little intro..........
bought my first VW about 3 months back. its a 1976 twin slider panel van with a 2 Ltr type 4 auto. originaly from the neatherlands.

always wanted a bus or bug as growing up a friend of mine had a few of each over the years and thought id throw caution to the wind and buy one!
caution was thrown so far away i bought the van without even seeing it in person!!

it was an ebay jobbie and thought i would have no chance of getting it at the price it was on there for. thought it would go for thousands more than i could afford so didnt hold out much hope.
i made 1 bid and waited thinking what the hell am i doing.
i won it with 1 bid fantastic!!!
then thought what have i done?? maybe people have been to see it and its just a pile of rust? oh no!!
it was a non runner and an unfinished project so picked it up on a truck and got it home.
well i was very happy with it 8)
the guy i bought it from had it for about 3 years and never had it on the road! all the welding work had been done but he didnt really say much else but after looking over it i found it had...

engine and carb looked very clean and think they have been stripped and reconditioned and never been on the road (connected up petrol tank and she started and runs well!!)
no nightmare finds and all very solid
    new shocks all round
    new brake lines
new disk brakes on front and new pads in box
new drums on rear and shoes and that
jacking points and replacement panels fitted
all new pipe work and pods for heating system
    plus other stuff
even 10 litres of rustoleum haha

so spent the first couple months on my back painting the underside
sand blasting wheels, painted white with second hand dunlop tyres all round and new baby moons
fitting and cleaning up brakes and bleeding
fitting second hand heat exs cleaned up and painted
    thermostat
fitting heater cables and pods and stuff
just finished painting the whole inside of the van
so now on to rubbing down and prepping the outside
i have a room full of nice new shiney bits and bobs ready to go on and the collection is getting bigger by the week hahaha

it has taken over my life and just cant wait to get it mot'd and on the move!!
after being out the country for 4 1/2 years out of the last 6 (oz and nz) and living in a van (toyota) for 1 of those years im sooo looking forward to sleeping in her and enjoying her!! :D

    Welcome!! K for location!

What did you paint the interior and the underside with? I've got a tin of POR15 ready to go, just waiting to put my van through an early MOT to get the underside approved or condemned before i commit to paint!

Good luck with the resto, Andy.
