  4. Bummer.

My mate put diesel in his van. Just after it had come out of the garage after a complete refurb. And the day before they drove down to the South of Spain ...

he didn't tell his wife till they got there! (and obviously after the local garage had rescued the situation!)

  7. I've done 10 miles so far and no problems

  8. I would say that is a worse way round as petrol in a diesel will wash away any lubrication that the diesel gives you, I have worked on a lot of cars that have been filled up wrong and can say the best way is to keep topping up with the correct fuel as often as you can to dilute the contamination down.

  10. 25 miles and no smoke

  11. It usually smokes the other way round diesel in petrol, you are more likely to cause damage by petrol in diesel, the diesel oil lubs your pump and injectors, top up often to dilute the petrol out.
    Good luck
Cost me a tank of petrol, a refill of diesel and a removal cost when I did it in my discovery a couple of years ago, I didn't start or run the engine so saved the pump and injectors from premature wesr

what tilly says..... you might find you get lucky, but diesel is an oil and lubricates ( just like adding 2 stroke in old bikes ) years ago when they didn't put anti waxing agents in diesel we used to add a gallon of petrol/paraffin to a tank of fuel in the lorries but that's a big tank, always with a car if you do it and it's a lot it's best drained, diesel in a petrol is ok if not too much of a bias to diesel it will just smoke a lot ( it's like burning oil ) but i suspect if it was too much diesel the modern ecu etc would throw a flap. hope you get away with it or sell the car before it shows the damage.

  13. Well 250 miles since putting unleaded in the diesel and she's running great and yesterday passed MOT.

    Fank gawd for that

The oil companies add petrol to diesel to stop it turning to wax in deep sub zero weather.
