Dodgy Mileage Reading

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Owen Snell, Mar 16, 2014.

  1. I've been clocking my mileage at fill ups and when I do jobs on the van. Last week I thought the mileage looked wrong and I've just checked against my records. Last fill at 40,256 and 100 miles later it reads 41,356. Not sure when I gained the extra 1,000 miles, but I very much doubt that the carb guy who sorted out the idle mixture last week did 1,000 extra miles in the 2 days that he had the van.

Do the mileage readings do strange things sometimes - thinking worn / broken bit in the mechanism.

  2. No reason why they should be dodgy. Likely something in the odometer mech.

Yes Owen. But usually it's human error in the form of not going to the opticians often enough. ;)

  4. Reckons you just misread the first time.

  5. ^probably this.

  6. My eyes are a bit crap, but I have multiple tank fulls of mileage readings and they coincide with last year's MoT certificate reading as well.
