Dodgy Mileage Reading

I've been clocking my mileage at fill ups and when I do jobs on the van. Last week I thought the mileage looked wrong and I've just checked against my records. Last fill at 40,256 and 100 miles later it reads 41,356. Not sure when I gained the extra 1,000 miles, but I very much doubt that the carb guy who sorted out the idle mixture last week did 1,000 extra miles in the 2 days that he had the van.

Do the mileage readings do strange things sometimes - thinking worn / broken bit in the mechanism.

 

No reason why they should be dodgy. Likely something in the odometer mech.

 

Reckons you just misread the first time.

My eyes are a bit crap, but I have multiple tank fulls of mileage readings and they coincide with last year's MoT certificate reading as well.
