I used to know John Thor Burnage lad. amazing actor and good at drinking and smoking Tab's but more important a very lovely Gentleman. Sadly missed.
Yes! Indeed! Do you know..... all through school, whenever I entered a room the whole class hummed The Sweeney theme tune! From 1st year right through to 5th year! I cannot imagine why???
Those programmes send a shudder down my spine lol , you could talk to them back then, I knew all the coppers from Fulham police station in the early to mid 70s although only ever got thrown out of the ground ( used to pay to get back in) but never nicked, I was a good boy or just lucky
I liked the bit in the latest Endeavour where all of the CID and local uniform police were in on drugs and council housing corruption. Morse's previous boss had been demoted to traffic as a result of a previous drugs bust that went wrong.. . But when the stand off in the quarry came to a head, it was the incorruptible traffic cops who came to the rescue. Lots of Panda cars and 70s british cars ... and longing glances at a rough looking Jag in the Police garage.
If I remember, PC George Dixon was shot and killed by Dirk Bogarde in the film The Blue Lamp. But he was such a popular character they created a TV series around him. Evenin’ All!
Growing up in my town Of Frome, we had a copper called PC Berryman. A mountain of a man who WOULD give you a clip round the ear, and your parents WOULD hear about it, and say “it’s your own stupid fault”! And that’s just for not having lights on your pushbike! No one I know, has a police record becuase of coppers like him scaring the sh&t out of us as kids! THATS the sort of coppers we desperately need again in this country! He’s still about too, I think. In his 80’s.
