My drivers door has a push button lock on the inside , on top at the rear but my passenger side lock is part of the inside handle ! Are they from different years ? Thanks Cam
My first van was the same - yes they are from different eras - the ones with the lock button inside the opening handle mechanism are earlier than those with the knob on the door frame top. Not sure why VW changed this as it seemed much better from a security perspective to have it as part of the opening handle mechanism
Do we know if the door cards are the same ? I've only got the passenger side that I've just trimmed and was going to copy it on the other side but wasn't sure if they are the same . The vans away being painted for an indefinite time so I can't check . Cheers Cam
IIRC They are the same fitting - I bought new ones for my old van (which had the odd doors) and don't remember having much issue fitting them - the opening handle is in much the same place. I bought the door cards and fitted them whilst at Vanfest leaving the old ones there! Checking on JK, the pre-drilled etc cards available are listed as 1967 - 1979 so no difference!
Mine's a 73 and doors are like that too - hole on one where the button should be ,but locks on the door handle
Layer doors have the button on the top and replacement doors have them too. Not seen an early with push buttons but i hvent been looking. My x overs and my earl/ late all had loocks in the handles. Replaced my doors and fitted the buttons for some reason! Cant recall why. Door cards are exactly the same fitting.
