I looked in the appropriate area of the forum but I cant find the info Im looking for.

I want to remove the one piece devon roof so that I can make a proper job of the body work, replace the bellows and repair some gel coat blisters, however I cant see how the framework is secured to the roof and dont want to damage any of the components or the roof by hacking away aimlessly. Ive looked but for the life of me I cant see any screws, does anyone have a step by step guide to whipping these things off and err refitting them ..

    many thanks

  2. Have you got any pics of your roof?

mine is the 2 piece Devon (flat top and base part)

the pop top part was secured by the hinges to the roof, and the canvass was secured by metal strips to the roof.

the base and frame of mine were secured with self tapping screws which were under the headlining which I had to remove first to get access to them

  3. As Diddymen said, it's a job to do, especially if the screws shear off! Canvas on mine was ripped so I just cut it at the base before removing the elevating mechanisms both sides. Lifted off the top part and then the base is secured by the screws. My wooden battens were rotten so I replaced them with oak kindly machined by the chippie next door. It's an awkward job but definitely worth it he time spent fella. Hope that helps :)

  5. Oh rite! That one hence reading your original post it says one piece, derr sorry!
Only advice I can give fella is to elevate it and see how canvas is fixed to the roof mate before cutting or removing it? Sorry

Thats the problem, the fabric is wrapped around the frame and sandwiched between that and the roof. If I could see a screw securing it that would be a starter for 10, there all bloody hidden or so it appears ........

  7. From memory...pop the roof right up, and look around the bottom curvy frame for black rubber bungs. If you pop these off, should be securing screws underneath.

Might be wrong here - long time since I looked at mine. Late Devons, as you say, clamp the canvas under the bottom frame, so there must be screws/bolts somewhere!
