Has anyone any knowledge or experience of fitting a roof cap as sold by Just Campers. Our 1974 Devon roof has started to leak a bit and am wondering if fitting a 'roof cap' over the existing roof is a sensible option
No experience of a roof cap, so can't comment on that When my devon roof was refurbed and had the bellows changed it leaked. Id be tempted to try and mend it in place if possible Stick up some pics and people may be able to help Ill try and dig out the thread on my leaking roof and how it was mended

I have a cap over our original pop top, fitted by a previous owner. It works. However...........It makes the pop top quite heavy and the original Spring struts are not sufficient to hold it up. Upgraded springs are available but I just use some timber supports! On the plus side my pop top doesn't leak I think if it was me I would be looking to see if your original roof can be suitably repaired and looking to the cap as the last resort.
Remove the seal that holds the inner piece to the outer, replace any loose rivets, fix any broken frame parts in the roof structure. Go over the roof with white roof vinyl (like the stuff you got on old cortina's etc ). Put it all back together Edit http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/early-devon-concertina-roof-refurb-guide.21401/
Thanks for link Paul. Now bit nervous as was thinking of having new bellows fitted as well!! Now wondering if fitting roof cap is the right option. Need a cool beer and a lie down
Thanks Bertie. Glad to hear that roof cap is working. The package from UK includes uprated springs but like yourself I currently rely on 2 pieces of timber to lock roof when raised. My problem so far is finding a local be s hop who would take on a rebuild. Not competent to do it myself
Why do you want new bellows? I changed mine as the van was restored and the old moldy ones looked crap, but they didn't leak! We need more info on your leak/reasons for change Im sure the link above from @3901mick will be helpful if you refurb or replace!
Thanks Mick, really liked the sound of your succinct reply! Got a bit worried though when read the link! Great info thanks. I feel I at least that I understand the process and will be able to discuss issue with a very shop. Not able to fix myself!
Look on top and give the rivets a poke if they are loose they will leak. They will probably be grey round them if loose as wearing the Ali. Sealant over them will not last long. Re fix them and vinyl glued on properly then fitted into the new seal. The vinyl needs to go under the rubber seal to seal the top properley
Have small perforations in bellows and a few taped seams. Thought it might be right to get both jobs done at same time
