I've got a 74 Devon with a concetina type canvas which i've recently stripped and had the frames powder coated. Just put it all back together but having trouble getting the roof to stay elevated! Are they shot or are there any adjustments that can be made? How are they meant to lock into position?
Or you can use some well measured struts at each end. Not ideal I know. You can get stronger springs from JK I think to support their roof caps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
These? http://www.justkampers.com/devon-roof-springs-vw-t2-bay-1967-1975.html How do you get the old ones out and these in? Can it be done in situ?
If you've had them powder coated them like me you probably removed the rivet pivot points and replaced with countersunk bolts ! in which case you can unbolt each strut separatly. Remember to use a ratchet strap on the strut before dismantling as the spring is under a lot of tension. Whilst apart check the strut slides in and out freely as the powder coating can be quite thick making the action stiff. If its still riveted you will have to release the centre fixing plate to the van, 5 screws and do one side at a time. Not too bad to do but remember ratchet straps B4 you undo the pin on the strut
