Devon louvered window rattling

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Pouch, Apr 10, 2021.

  1. The louvered window rattles lots when driving along.
The two levers seem to work fine it just rattles.

I thought of fixing a chandelier to drown out the noise, but i’d have to keep the roof elevated while driving along & thats just not practical.
Any suggestions on sorting the louvered window?

  2. Have the louvers got the rubber seal strips on?

  3. There is a white seal on the top pane for each side, but the rest are glass against glass

  4. Should have rubber bits/seals at the top of each pane.

  5. That explains the rattle, thanks snotty

  6. Used to be a company that sold clear seals for the top edges, but i can't remember who it was. Draught excluder might do at a pinch.

I managed to find some on Ebay. They were self-adhesive black rubber/neoprene/spongy stuff. Despite cleaning the glass well, one has fallen off. The others are still ok though

I don't have the inter-pane seals...or a rattle. They can be adjusted also. Loosen the handle screws, slide up or down to loosen or tighten the rattling and click lock action of the handle.

Its not necessary to have the little bits of plastic, the glass touches properly and doesnt leak. Maybe Westies need it but not those Devon windows.

  10. I can't say whether Devon originally fitted seals along the glass panes but I fitted self adhesive brush type seals to mine when I first picked up the window about 20 years ago. Pretty sure I bought a roll of the stuff cheaply enough from B&Q - used in greenhouses...

Also make sure you have something similar along the edges in the slots and there should also be a seal (mine's the original white rubber) in the bottom of the frames...

Your problem may be none of the above and just want the aluminium tabs that hold the glass gently squeezing up with mole grips or similar.

There is brush stuff threaded in channels either side. The only place there is a seal on mine is at the bottom. Conveniently there is an Ethernet cable sized gap one end as the seal has shrunk and gone ivory coloured.

PS what rain ? Its been forecast the last 2 days and each time just a few drops.
