Hi all, I'm currently building the units for my bus and I was just wondering if you guys wouldn't mind measuring the depth of the main unit and weather you wished it was bigger or find it a bit to intrusive in the cargo floor area.. By 'main unit' I'm referring to the unit under the window behind the driver-side bulkhead. I was going to make mine 16-17" deep, but feel like it could be bigger without being to in the way Thanks all O0 Luke
The bus is down the workshop so l can't measure but my main Westfalia Berlin unit is as deep as the front seat bulkhead. It then loses about 6" (l think) for the cool box and rear lower locker next to the 3/4 rock n roll bed/seat that then runs into the rear wardrobe. As for wanting more or less l think the Berlin has the perfect size units depth and width wise. l only wished they were a few inches higher like my kitchen units at home. l wouldn't want the rear wardrobe any deeper.
Hmm, interesting. I would have thought as wide as the bulkhead might be a bit much.. Ok, well at least I can make mine a little deeper now without worrying its to intrusive. Thanks all
Yeah, they're deep enough. It takes a long reach and a flashlight to get something from the very back. If you want more storage space, I highly recommend redesigning the refrigerator and storage cabinets that are between the sink and the closet. I can think of no reason why they had to be about a foot shorter than the sink/stove. Take them all the way up to the window and put a door on the front down by the electrical outlet. Then you may have to put an access door on the inner side of the closet facing the bed. It would also be nice to have a hole in the closet on the window side. That would give much needed light in the closet and you could reach the curtain to open, close, and straighten it. Otherwise, when the curtain is pulled too far forward you have to tuck it back in with a coat hanger or a yard stick, and it always looks bunched up from outside.
i like the fridge and store area that low, with the bed folded down i put my pillows on the top of the fridge and lie cornerways with feet to the tailgate, the cooker unit then becomes my headboard.
