Quite specific and those that know will know! I’m resetting the float hights. Book tells me closed 5/6 mm measured from carb top and fully open 12/13 mm. My question relates to setting closed hight. Is the measurement with the needle valve closed but before the needle spring slack is taken up (which I’m thinking is correct) or is it with the needle valve shut and the spring compressed. I’m chasing down a running issue but noticed that with the bus rear end on the wedges and the fuel pump running fuel was flooding into the front venturis as it was being pumped past the float valves. I can see that the orientation of the floats and angle of the bus might lead to that. When I took off the tops the float hights were miles out. Whether that cures things or not with the flooding then will of course see but regardless of whether you have a pressure regulator fitted it would put the jetting out and make progression very inconsistent I assume! many thanks in advance. I’m guess in @Zed might know! Help! Ta
Hold upright, float dangling, some are sort of double action, i.e. they keep moving after the fuel is cut off, like suspension! So, blow through the inlet and see at which point they shut off. That suspension action maybe why they don't chatter and wear like crappy Webers.
After which the float can keep moving up, but it's free play with no consequence. The point of dangling the float is it's possible to find that point whereas with the lid on it's back the weight of the float makes it impossible to judge. I thought if I sent you out to your shed to play you'd be in no doubt but you'd already done that bit?
No doubt. A couple of years ago Mel and I ran a mercy mission to BnQ in Nottingham to collect a 'bargain' shed. We went in the syncro and coz at the time I had a bad back, Mel drove. The van had/has a roof rack and Mel and Chris got it back to his place and they managed to get it into his and Mrs Columbo's back garden via removing a fence panel and lobbing it into the rear garden. It now has pride of place amongst at least 4 others ..
adjusted... fitted and running fine now! Still a bit of tweaking to do but good for now! Thanks Steve! @Zed and Vanorak!
