dellorto DRLA 40's - fuel connections

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by grub, May 13, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

Would be most grateful if someone could post up how I connect a pair of Dellorto DRLA 40's top my fuel line.

On my ICT's I have one fuel from the pump splitting into two with each of these feeding a carb, but someone told me that on the DRLA you would normally run a single fuel line from the pump to one of the carbs and then link the carbs with a fuel line.

On that basis, I would assume that one carb has 2 fuel pipes & the other carb has just 1?

Does it matter which way round each carb is (i.e. is there a left & a right carb?).

Any info greatly appreciated as I have never used these carbs before.

    Many thanks

I found that although mine came as you describe, the first in the chain flooded so I went back to teeing off to the carbs and blocked the spare connection on the carb with a double.

  3. Hi

The Dellorto bible says one feed into the left hand carb and feed off that to the right. My pair are off the bus but I'm refitting later today. Will send a picture when I get a chance.

  4. thanks guys - which is the feed pipe on the left hand carb & which is the one which should be connected to the right carb?

    It doesn't matter.

  7. Hi
Sorry but this old fart can't upload the pictures I took for you today. Assuming you've got the banjo feed screwed into the left hand carb, you are good to go.

Do you have a pressure regulator on the inline? I had to fit an electric pump when my old mechanical pump gave up the ghost many years ago and the regulator was a must, cause the pressure off the electric pump is too much for the carbs.

Probably can't upload pictures cause I just had a Marmite day in the shed refitting the new engine - couldn't even fit the heat exchangers easily cause the pushrod tubes on the new heads were too tight - grrrrr.

And if the bloody camera had worked I'd have regaled you with pictures of the old wiring that i have to sort out tomorrow.....

    best of luck anyway

    cheers Mike

  8. no matters Mike,

I am planning to fit the carbs tomorrow then put the engine in on Saturday.

I am still running a mechanical fuel pump.

May be hearing more form me in the next few days if all does not go to plan!

    Thanks

  9. you will still need a pressure regulator if using the standard fuel pump

  10. also, look in the how to section ;)

I've got Dell twin 40's, it's got a standard mechanical fuel pump, no pressure regulator and the fuel line runs into a tee piece then to each carb  It runs perfect and has never let me down

  12. Standard pump, no tee here. Feeds to double banjo on right then to left carb. Seems ok!

  13. 1776 cc Twin 40s Mech pump to left carb then on to right.

  14. Twin 40s on 2110 type one engine. Mechanical pump to Filter king pressure regulator, to t piece, to each carb independently. Now with single fuel banjos inlets on each carb. Previously dual banjos with one blocked of pipe per carb which can be a leak risk the way I had them plumbed in.

Tried and failed to insert picture

  15. thanks guys,

The left carb has a smaller fuel tube & a larger fuel tube - right carb has just one larger tube, so ran pump to smaller connection on left carb then larger diameter pipe from left carb to right carb - will see how we get on!

Objectandproduct, did you put your carbs on yourself? If so, where did you get them tuned up - looking for somewhere local to us that can set them up properly when I get the engine in & running

    thanks
