Dellorto "chokes"

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by snotty, May 19, 2021.

  1. Anyone tried using the cold-start circuits on a Dellorto (DRLA40 in my case). Most folk take the linkage connectors off and blank them, but wondered if anyone had had a go at using them as an experiment?

  2. nope mine are blanked orf

  3. Pretty sure mine are too.

  4. Mine are blanked, just wondered if anyone had ever tried them out.

  5. Mine are still on just cabling them up is tricky.. but the do lift revs when cold..causes it to stutter a bit when warm..

The choke isn't technically a choke, it's enrichment with it's own jets and emulsions. Anyone know how that works?

  7. It is indeed - a whole separate cold start circuit. Nothing so common as chokes on Dells!

  8. When you tried them, did they start and run ok from cold? Just curious as to how well they work.

I did take a squint at my “choke” levers, and as you say they’d be tricky to connect even if you had a long enough cable: the cable clamping is for two carbs in a row, not one on each side of the engine.

    Ah, well.

  9. I only played with them to see what effest they have when it was running. I'll have a play at the weekend to rig something up and see if it kick off better with them opened up

Thee days I could imagine fitting an Arduino connected to the oil temperature and a stepper motor driver for a stepper motor with a lead screw to pull on bowden cables pulling on levers in the engine bay.

Mind you the wiring would be simpler to stick a fuel injector in there like the 5th injector on an old FI..

Or maybe fit a progressive as this has a choke that works identically to a 34PICT-3.. evil cackle.

  11. Would be interesting to know if they start the van up cleanly from cold. Don’t intend to use mine, just wondered how well they worked, as I’d never tried them.
