Defect Fuel Gauge

Latebay 76, type4 2.0L

My fuel gauge suddenly stoped function, it just show empty tank even if the tank is full or not.
Whats the most common failure? where do I start?
I heard that the most common failure is the fuel sender unit, but I dont wanna start cutting there if the problem is elswhere..

Could just be a cable has fallen off the back of the gauge... Worth having a root around under the dash, to look for a dangling wire.

Have the same problem and I'm not cutting it or taking the engine out.
So it's a paper an pen to record mileage at fill-ups and a full 5lt fuel container.
Certainly gives you your fuel consumption figures when you run out.
Pump tells you as well.

Only run out a couple of times!!!!

 

Haha If I haveto cut i will. But a 5lt fuel container was a good idea. I will reply here when I find the bastardo
