Dealing with unwanted visitors

  1. Good Evening All,

I have taken my T2 out of storage this week and noticed that an old screw fix catalogue had been turned into shredded paper. On closer inspection I've found considerable amount of mouse droppings and they have ruined some bedding that was stored in there.

I've taken out everything thats not fixed down for a good clean, i can only think it got in through the sink waste pipe or through the small gaps where the clutch/brake pedals are.

Has anyone else had any similar issues? and i'm particularly interested to know if anyone has any tips to keep these little visitors away.

    Thanks!

  2. They do like to nest. Once you're using the van, they're unlikely to come back.

    I hate rats

  6. We had a Great Infestation in about 2000 - they even got into the loft. I was at the end of my tether. Horrible things.

If you watch people doing restorations in the USA they have many more species of mice infesting their vehicles. The droppings are unpleasant but when they build nests in the bodywork, their urine is corrosive and rust holes often appear where the mice spend most time, as house mice leave a trail of urine wherever they go.

    Notes from the countryside ...
Chocolate definitely works best but is just inviting them in.
On ours I've put card around under a breathable outdoor cover.
It acts as a damp buffer but also "stops" them getting underneath as it doesn't register as a "place of interest" ....
The other thing you might want to consider is leaving a small amount of yellow sponge or polystyrene in a corner nearby. They're less likely to go prospecting in your bus.
Last thing ... Plug those holes you mentioned with wire wool (in a plastic bag in case it rusts a bit) ... They will NOT venture further once they hit that.
PS in this digital age a Screwfix catalogue is only useful in store ... To take the tone of a couple of messages on my thread:
"You have to accept that you played your part and brought it on yourself by leaving a Screwfix catalogue in there!" ;)

We got the pest control in but they put out the wrong poison (warfarin) so the little beggars got all cold and came IN to die. Not the best smell to find the source of ... Had to cut out chunks of insulation aka rat duvet once I'd found the black shiny exudate thingy dangling from the loft ceiling
