DE-Choking a dellorto?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by NatchoNatchoMan, Apr 24, 2013.

  1. in prep for fitting my carbs, I have given them a strip and overhaul, changed all the little rubber washers, gaskets and sealing ring, new accelerator pump diaphragms new needle valves, fitted new 30 venturi and fitted new jets and emulsion tubes as recommended by eurocarb

removed the choke leaver and cams, fitted a coverplate, however, do I need to install the airbox fixing and choke return spring? parts 47 and 48 in the picture? cos when I do, I cant get the airfilter plate

so my question is, how much of the choke system do I need to remove?

  2. google is your friend here or VZI there is loads on this , basically you bin 47 but tap it M8 or M10 and fill the hole with a grub screw leave spring and plunger .you will also have to drill tap the M6 holes and fit studs for your filter bases and or trumpets . Bin all the choke mech and put a cover over hole (60 ,61) Eurocarb settings will probably be off as well so be prepared for jet changes , if you need any pics then give us a shout

  3. Was thinking just drill a hole in the bottom of the airfilter base plate to allow 47 to poke through
Thanks for the advice about jetting, thought the guys at eurocarb would know what they were doing, hopefully will get them installed this week.... Will let you know how it goes!

  4. on the subject of carbs, and fuelling, I will be using a a redtop electric fuel pump and a filter king pressure reg, I also toyed with the idea of using the fuel return of the second carb to feed back into a T-piece before the fuel pump to act as a fuel return, help take some of the pressure off the fuel pump as it would be able to "re-circulate" the fuel not being used, my original idea was to try and send it back to the fuel tank, but gave up on that! the T-piece seemed like an easier option!

  5. Any more than 3.5 psi and you will have problems .. i feed into the right carb and from that double banjo in to the left single banjo carb . no return or anything .

  6. My left has another double, but with one take off smaller than the othet

  7. Re the chokes - you can leave everything in place inside the carbs, just remove and blank off the operating levers.

PS Thinking about it, I wouldn't remove any of the internal cold-running stuff, as you don't know what Mysterious Passages you'll uncover. It doesn't do anything unless actuated by the choke cable(s).
