Dash switches - how..?

I can see that there is a chrome 'escutcheon, ' to use the vehicular vernacular, attaching the switch body to the dash, but how do I get my knobs off? I've tried twisting but they just seem to go round.

 

If the headlight switch goes round and round the dimmer is broken. There's a small hole in the stalk to assist while you unscrew.
They all unscrew.

 

If you're stuck getting the switches out of the dash Chris, I have a special tool for it, you are welcome to borrow it.

Thanks @Zed. I didn't notice the little hole. I didn't force the headlight switch for that very reason!

 

Thanks Paul. I'll see how I get on. I was considering making one out of an old fork or something.

 

Ah I would’ve lent you my tool I have for just this job when you were over last week! Although that does rely on me knowing where it is.
