On the off chance anyone is interested I have for sale a 1952 Cymota cyclemotor on a 1937 Raleigh Sports Model 3 speed bicycle. On ebay now starting at £375.......... The Cymota was made for only one year 51/52 and only 252 were ever sold - as far as I can tell no one knows how many were made!! They are based (copied!) from the French Velosolex of the time and have the "Bee Hive" type cover to make them look space-age (for 1952). It sits on the front wheel and drives by friction on the tyre. This one is complete and original apart from the bracket for the decompressor/lifting mechanism and the silencer. The magneto has been rebuilt and sparks and I have had it cough a couple of times but not run properly. Many more pictures available if required. Yet to be registered with DVLA as its been in storage for 50 years! If anyone wants a piece of motoring history - here it is !! Its in Malvern, Worcs (WR14) if anyone wants a look....
Got bored this morning and have taken the head off - just to have a look ! May well put new rings in to see if compression will raise a little - still for sale but now in bits!!
It is, in fact, a direct copy of 1950's Solex motors - the pistons/rings are interchangeable!! There's few good write ups on the web, apparently the design was "copied" without Solex's knowledge, the Bee Hive cover an attempt to disguise the fact!
