cv part where does it go?

new kit has bit in old one didn't have on, pictured next to circlip

 

I seem to remember that this part is no longer used. The instructions I got some time back told me to leave it off.

 

not sure on a bay ive never had to change one. but on a mk1 golf that part is fitted on the shaft before the cv joint is fitted. i found this on the net it doesnt look like its used

its recomended to leave it off as states in the Haynes manwel ,so which kit did you get as spreader plates look funny ???

 

The spring washer thing is supposed to fit on the end of the shaft before the circlip. As above, VW deleted this part, so you can leave them off with no ill effects. They're impossible to get on, anyway.

lol cheers guys, me old mate barneyrubble said the same, out of all 4 boots one had it on, i'll fill you all in on the cv joints thread later..... this is a job i don't want to do again for a long time!

 

Its the searching for the clips thats the worst when they ping off into the shrubbery!
