CV Joints

  1. Hi all.
After a bit of advice. I have bought four new CV joints for Desmond, I managed to get GKN ones for a reasonable price and have managed to work out which way they go around. But as he has been the subject of many years of South African maintenance I'm lost as to whether to refit the concave washers, he had a mix of not fitted and different orientation and the manual suggests they be discarded. So, which way around are they fitted or should they be discarded totally even though there is a brand new one in each box?

  2. Current opinion is to discard..

Some need washers or the splines may wear if there is any movement of the CV joints on the shafts..

I found with the GSF CV joints and some random cruddy driveshafts off eBay the washers fitted perfectly and so I used them. Other shafts and CV joints dont need them.
