  1. Cleaned the other end too now, Lobro one on left has slightly bigger balls in, is 2mm narrower but same diameter and articulates much better, not loose but free to wobble more , doesn't look worn and just feels better....

Balls in the newer one feel more fixed in the cage which doent have so much of a noticable taper on one side so harder to tell which way round it should be..

Think I'm going with the Lobro and try get a new pair for the weird ones[IMG]

That's interesting. I wonder if the one on the right is aftermarket 924/944 then.
The reason we change on the syncros to 944 is because they have smaller balls allowing for greater articulation for vans with raised suspension. And they are a dadge wider. Look at the 2 in my pic. The one I annotated is GKN T2/3 standard. The newer unused one is Porsche 924/44. The inner race on your 'weird' one looks very similar to the Porker one, slightly wider metal between the balls on the short edge.
They don't look worn. I'd be inclined to shove them back in again:thinking:

  3. Having received a new pair of joints ...it might be the loose Lobro ones that get swapped.. didnt realise quite how stiff they were new!

If they're not pitted or badly scored in the ball races, and you have room, hang on to them. You never know..
