CU engine accelerator cable

  1. Does this look right ?
On checking my 2 litre CU engine from the inside hatch I noticed the accelerator cable enters the engine thro a tophat tube but at an angle to the twin carb actuator bar where the spring return is , but the cable is wearing a groove into the tophat!
I don’t have a problem with the operation & I know the original engine was an 1800 AP in ‘75 , just checking the tophat groove wear is normal , thanks

Think you must have a mis match of parts. the cable should be straight.

  3. As Zed, it is a bodge up. CU engines the cable enters the right of the engine. Dscf3548 640.jpg

  5. Thanks for that guys , seems like mine could have been set up for LHDrive originally maybe ( just guessing ? )

Mine was originally left hand drive and now converted to right hand drive and mine is slightly bent when coming through the fire wall.

I just placed about 9 inches of lubed ‘outer’ push bike brake or gear cable around it. Been on ok for years

That's more than likely isn't it considering it's a South African conversion?
There must be some literature on what Jurgens did in SA to modify the vehicles for the home market?
Might be worth trying to find out:thinking:

Since this photo I put a longer section in to prevent it going inside the firewall

  10. Have only had my Jurgens 3 years but the round air filter set up seems unique to dusty environments?
And I know VW sent them over there as the original engines were AP 1800’s so I’m led to believe but the South Africans ‘beefed them up with CU 2000’s ?
But how much more has been altered / modified I don’t know , could maybe ask on the SA Jurgens forum?

  11. Ah yes thanks ever so much for that, something I may have to consider in the future….funny though it’s probably been like that for 40 years !

When I bought mine it had only been converted to rhd a couple of years previous and the accelerator cable was sawing into the firewall. This solved the issue

Be worth a shout. They have a big following and some of the modifications may be quite subtle. :)
