Ctek install

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by volkswombat, Mar 12, 2017.

  1. Was going to install my ctek in the engine bay ala @theBusmonkey but I'm not keen on chopping the plug off, plus ideally I'd like to have the option of taking it out to use elsewhere if necessary.

I see extension comfort cables (why on earth are they called comfort cables?) Are available so could mount it anywhere, just wondered where /how you've mounted yours?

  2. do you have a leisure battery? Split charge relay?

  3. I was going to mount mine under the rock n roll bed ... I have already run the cables from the engine bay to there, just need to sort electrical hook up ...

very comfortable to undo and do up

  4. You could put a 240v socket in the engine bay to plug the ctek into!
Or you could plug it in in under your bed and run a comfort lead extension thingy through to the engine bay.

  6. Might stick it in the wheel well with the other leccy bits then

mines under the bed and plugs into a socket the 12v side goes the the 12v fuse box next to it

    Same here...

  9. its best connected to the leisure fusebox id say. so no reason for it not to go inside. That way you can see what its doing without going in the engine bay.

  10. like others have done, mine plugged into mains socket under the bench/bed and wires taken back to battery through grommet in spare wheel well. the round connectors for the battery bolts have been filed down so they fit through for easier removal if needed...

Grommet in spare wheel well, hole has neatly rusted larger over the years, so room also for large diameter cables to inverter/charger.

Also remember if you bury it too well and it has to work hard, it may produce a few watts of heat and get hot enough to shut itself down. My 10A inverter/charger has a fan in it and that often runs. Its also in a stupid place just above the spare wheel well where it 'fizzes' fairly loudly even when the fan is not running.
