CSP Bell Crank for Twin Weber 34ICT - Need help!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by boggie, May 1, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

As previously discussed the PO fitted a pair of nice new Weber 34 ICT carbs then ruined them by fitting the Empi throttle linkage that came with the carbs in the Justkampers kit. There were a number of fitting issues so it is clear PO was clueless and I have sorted these but the Empi linkage is bloody awful: I can get the carbs balanced at 800 RPM but they go out of balance at higher revs.

Following previous advice I want to fit a Bell Crank linkage as it is a properly engineered bit of kit. However, my camper is a 73 crossover with a T4 1700 motor. CSP only list a T1 Bell Crank for ICT carbs. Here it is at Justkampers:
    http://www.justkampers.com/129-941-110ict-csp-type-1-bellcrank-linkage-for-weber-ict-carbs.html

I tried the CSP website and Google to get CSP phone number and call for advice but it not published anywhere. All they have is one of those contact pages you fill in that never get answered. I also tried talking to JK who can't help but their accounts guy did have CSP phone number which I rang but nobody answers.

Can anyone help please? Will the type 1 bell crank above fit my type 4?

    Cheers,
    B

  3. Fill in the CSP contact form and they'll email you back. That's what it is there for!

I'm sure @Dicky fitted one, I bought the type 1 from VWH, I believe they need a mid to lengthen the rods, I don't know as I haven't fitted it yet
    :)

  4. I have the csp bellcrank fitted on mine

  5. I have one but modded it almost immediately.
It now runs upside down with a billet mount, this allows a straight cable run and also straightens the rod linkages.

  6. Opps, i have 40 dells

  13. can see the rose joints are flipped. What tinware is on there - doesnt look like type 4 bus tin?
    Mine (poor pic im afraid)_

  14. The whole thing is flipped and an extra spacer turned up for the bottom.
It means that the cable runs completely straight from the tinware to the pull clamp and that the carb bars run straight rather than at an angle.
This made a big difference to the feel and the engine shut down speed, the biggest difference was the Rose joints on the throttle pedal though, massive difference for no cost and little skill. :D

  15. Just heard back from CSP. They do not make a Type 4 34ICT linkage....

  16. Seeing as it appears I need to keep the EMPI linkage and the PO installation is not really working, I am going to pull it out and try to install it better as there are numerous options moving arme, levers etc. Please could any of you with the EMPI that is working well, send me pictures of the linkage to the carb? Specifically if the operation is a push-down or pull-up angles of arms etc. I would be most grateful!

    Cheers

  17. Looks like I can't have a bell crank on my ict reading this thread

I'm sure you can. Where there's a will there's a way. If you look back at Dickie's pic for instance, the linkage is hiding behind the carbs. Fine if you have a hatch but as I haven't I made a bracket to move the whole lot to the engine lid side. :) So with some thought you could get it to work with ICT's, probably just not bolt on out of the box.
