Crosdresser linkage confusion...?

  1. I pulled the rear shift rod out of the van yesterday, plan being to sort the bushes while the engine and box are out. I was aware that x-overs have the silly seperate bit (item 20 on the diagram)...

... however my rod seems to have a 'rear' bush (16) at the front and a 'front' bush (13) at the rear? The replacements I bought seem to be in agreement. Am I right in thinking that a normal bus has the shuttlecock with the metal ring fitted to the front end? My shift rod has one hole drilled at the front end (to fit the all plastic bush) and two holes, 90 degrees apart at the rear ( to fit the bush with the metal clip).

What do I fit and where do I fit it?

    Help!

  2. On my late the bush with the ring goes to the front and the other two are just plastic
With yours I can only think you have to build it back up the way it came apart
I wonder if earlies and c overs used a bug rod hence the extension

  3. I think it's just x-overs that have the silly link for added floppiness! Earlies don't have it AFAIK. My current thinking is to fit two with the wire clip for maximum stiffness, with a third just plastic one as an extra in the middle! Why the hell not....

  4. School day for me is this. Ive no recollection of the extra bit. where is the linkage situated ie how do you physically get to it?

  5. My Bay has an X over linkage. Mine does not have part 20. However. it does have part 10 and these are no longer available. I wish someone would make them. Keep that part well lubed so that it does not wear out. You cant replace it easily if it becomes over sized. I have also not seen part 20.

  6. Part 10 is available here...

You are right, I've never seen part 20, but I suspect it could be replicated quite easily.

  7. Linkage all pulls out from the back as normal. I have wondered if the purpose of the extra part is to be able to replace the rear bush in-situ? I'll do some measuring, as it could save headaches in the future! Mind you, the linkage is likely to outlast the engine anyway!!

  8. Ive had a number of 72s and 73s and ive never come across this tbh. Thats why inask. Ive replaced the rear shiftbrod to gearnbox linkage a few times. Perhaps i just cant remember.
