I've got to remove the petrol tank from my crewie. It's got diesel in it ! and has a non VW filler which means the correct cap won't fit. Is this an engine out job like a bus or can it come out forwards into the crew cab area ? Stirlingmoz
I've often thought if the tank needs to come , which way ? Because it's right behind the cab bulkhead I would of thought by removing the two panels there it would pull through into the cab . Obviously I've not done it but would be worth removing the panels to see Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Doubt it'd come out through the engine bay if it's the same as a single cab , which I think it is ! That's what the removable panels are for
How much diesel have you put in. If its only a bit Why don't you just fill up with petrol to dilute the diesel , Drive it to from full to the 3/4 mark on the fuel gauge and put more petrol in back up to full to dilute it further. OR. Find the out let on the tank and drain it. I've never had to remove a tank to remove the wrong fuel or no anyone that has had to do this.
Thanks guys. Grateful for the replies. Gonna drain the diesel into fuel containers and take it to the council tip. Can't be more than a couple of gallons in there. I think it will save me some time and effort if I can get the tank out via the cab area. I've been slowly working through the engine getting it ready for a test start (totally unknown to me) so this method will save me some time and effort. Was considering a remote fuel supply but it would just be putting this job off, so time to bite the bullet. Stirlingmoz
If its only a bit of diesel just top up the tank and treat it as an overdose of proprietary de coking stuff . It will smoke a lot but it will not kill it.
Got the tank out today. Only had a pint or two of diesel in there. Found an array of bodges. Tank sender just resting in the hole - no gasket (not working anyway) Incorrect filler pipe - everything from the tank to the outside world is wrong (and bodged) The breather just vents to atmosphere. Retaining straps just resting on the tank. They have broken away from the floor. Tank is thankfully nice and clean on the inside but the exterior is minging. About 2 stone of South African mud and stones in the hole where it all lives. Definitely the right thing to do, taking this out. Just got to clean it up and repair everything now. Stirlingmoz
