creaky donuts !!

  1. Hi all,

Not long replaced my spring plates with adjustable ones, which came with new rubber donuts.

The metals covers were a bit of a squeeze to get on past the new donuts, but now my suspension is creaking on one side.

I assume that this is because I omitted to grease them when I put them on!

Where exactly should I be applying grease & what sort of grease.

    Thanks

The donuts are supposed to flex with neither part slipping against them, like all other rubber suspension bushes.
The problem with the adjustable ones is you'll have noted they have been machined to fit the springplates leaving "not enough" material for the flexing so they slip and creak. Because of this people grease them apparently. When I had mine I didn't grease them and they didn't creak, but I only had about 1" of suspension so I guess they coped. Which grease? No idea. :)

  3. little bit of cv grease maybe... mine creaks but I cant hear it on the road and being a pickup, i dont really sleep in it unless i'm really in trouble :D

  4. I think,Graphite dry lubricant would work , used it on my Beetle many years ago for the same problem.

  5. Zeds explanation sounds reasonable. DON'T put any kind of lubricant on them apart from a sprinkle of talc when fitting. They're meant to be gripped tightly, not slip. If you grease them, they'll rotate with the suspension, squeak like mad and wear out in no time.

  6. Erm yea I did the same ! My bus sounded like an old pram ,, it's has wore of a bit now tho
