as the title says which one/ type do you use I can buy the one from machine 7 for about £65 but just wondering if there is a cheaper way not that I'm tight of course but would rather spend money on beer it makes pulling easier
I just used std a 3 leg puller with the feet flatted off a little bit with a grinder on my type 4 rebuild. Worked fine Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk Edit..Now with new improved link..
I had mine taken off at a local engineering firm, £5. That's £60 for beer If I was doing this every day I'd buy one but I don't expect / intend to do this more than once!
I had considered that but thought if there was a £20 solution then I'd get that I won't be doing it all the time unless my build goes bang after I put it together in which case I will be doing it again lol
A Kennedy 6 inch three leg puller from Cromwell Tools. Price about £40. Wrapped in rope to make sure the legs stay put. Also copes with flywheels that have slightly corroded pins and pulling the steering arm off the steering box.
I've got a six inch three leg puller but the bottom claws are to big to get into the gap between the bearing and the gear does the Kennedy one fit or does it need some adjusting ? Thanks for all the help guys.
Ten quid for a Silverline MS23 Gear Puller Set - should do it, maybe only once and it will need a bit of ‘modification’ with a grinder. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-MS23-Gear-Puller-3-Piece-x/dp/B000LFVPYE
I took mine down to local garage and as they said you probably wont be re-using the bearing so they put the plate behind that as more room, with a 20 ton press it took seconds to get it all off....

I think that one stands a good chance of fitting behind the gear and being able to pull it off. The gear is only brass after all so it will slide off fairly easily. It will also serve to change alternator bearings and pull steering wheels off. The Clarke puller was a bit on the bulky side too. I would not go for a cheap Chinese puller - I have managed to snap a Laser brand one when getting violent with an outboard motor flywheel, and in order to cope with the lack of strength of the metal, the ends are thicker than the better quality ones..
My new puller arrived today and it works a treat not bad for £17 I would show you pics but can't get them to upload.
