Crankshaft Bearings & Thrust

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by allibus, Mar 26, 2014.

  1. From the old bearings I can't decipher what thrust they are?

The code is BU2 / 0.50, the 0.50 I guess is the journal regrind figure but what is the thrust, standard??

There is a part number but I can't seem to relate this to any other - 85072720

Failing this what do you measure to confirm the thrust figure ?

I have looked on some earlier threads but these didn't make it clear. perhaps it's me!

  2. After some more pondering, web and thread searching and measuring I have found this and my measurement across "A" is 22mm. So I'm sure (?) I have standard thrust, but to be sure does anyone disagree? :)

  3. Presuming this is a 1600cc Type 1?

Crank should measure 55mm (Cut in 0.25mm Cuts)

Case should measure 65mm (Cut in 0.50mm Cuts)

Thrust should measure 22mm (Cut in 1.00mm Cuts)

So you should measure the case rather than bearing but if it's 22mm sounds like you have stock thrust to me :D

  4. Sorry guys, I should have mentioned that I have a 2.0l Type 4 although the pic is from a 1600

  5. Ah! Cheers Alex I have it now. I should measure the case where the bearing fits, which should be the same although you do hear horror stories

  6. As per Alex, measure the case and crank, then get bearings to suit.

  7. Type 4

    Crank 60mm

    Case 70mm

    Thrust 22mm

    ;)

  8. Thanks again Alex, I'll get my ruler on them as soon as I get my cases back from the welder!

    Cheers
