Crankcase breather to air cleaner hose

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by No CAN bus, Jun 28, 2016.

  1. I am having trouble finding a suitable hose to connect the crankcase breather on the oil filler neck to the oil bath air cleaner. Both ends are 19mm (or maybe 20mm) but I can't find a hose that is sufficiently flexible to get around the fan outlet. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

  2. Ah, I see. The kinkiness might be a problem if you get straight oil hose.

I ended up chopping the JK one shorter in stages until it sort of bent the right way and then tightened a cable tie round the bit where it started collapsing. Not ideal. The other idea was to mess around with bending 22mm copper tube and join the ends on with short lengths of rubber hose.

  4. Find a local hydraulics place and go in and ask. Cost me £2.50 for a meter
You can see about half of the purchased length used on this pic in my bug

  5. How flexible is hydraulic hose? I tried some 19mm reinforced rubber marine fuel pipe and that collapsed on the bends because it was too stiff.

  6. I'll bend the other bit and take a pic at the point it kinks

  7. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

    It's barely flexible.

  8. Check at your local hardware store for Washing Machine Drain hose.. It's a smaller version of a Hoover Hose with Corrugations and can bend without kinking.

I'm using this stuff at the moment. It is PVC electrical conduit - 20mm i/d but it looks bad and gets soft when it gets warm. Oil will probably dissolve it eventually too. I am really surprised that there seems to be nothing better available.

I used rubber hose and a plastic push on bend
