My windscreen rubber is fairly new but the others are all showing their age with varying degrees of cracking. This is more than a cosmetic problem, the cracks can allow water to get in! Is there a recommended "paint on" treatment which will waterproof the rubbers???

Unless you had the windscreen rubber replaced, mate ? a consideration must be "whats the metal like to which the rubber fits"? one guy on this site gave me a way of assessing same, he suggested pressing on the rubber and see/feel if it feels like it"s crumbling/weak underneath, I expect said metal may have to be pretty far gone ? if I got that result but it does sound like a reasonable way to check out what u may be getting into ,once the windows come out ,I done it and concluded mine were reasonable but I got some waterproof sealant and edged seal out from screen and squirted same around screen and so far ,all good.Hope this helps? >disclaimer ;I do not suggest this is a "cure -all" !
You could bodge it with this stuff from Frost.. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-windscreen-tools/black-rubber-paint-250ml.html
Hi Molteni mike ! all the rubbers on my van were cracked , dried out and causing black lines down the sides after rain . As i was completely restoring the van i changed them all but found the metal below in gr8 condition ! just a rub down rust cure and paint . Unless there is obvious bubbling or rusting around the edges of the rubbers you will probs be ok just to seal them up with frosts product ^ Hope this helps ,
Paradox and Baysearcher your both 100% right but i'd be inclined to either leave till after the summer when i can take my time, or , tidy it up while its in use as a temporary measure for aesthetic reasons . Mainly to avoid the ( can open , worms everwhere scenerio ) where if left , i could enjoy what summer / time i'd have ?. Hope this makes sense
Rubber paint does work as a temporary fix. If applied now would probably last till the autumn by which time it can be readily peeled off again.
