Cracked cylinder head - what do you reckon?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by nobayinhell, May 21, 2019.

  1. Like an absolute spanner I dropped one of my OG cylinder heads while cleaning them up for my rebuild

Thankfully (I hope) the damage is restricted to the largest cooling fin. Given the location of the damage I was thinking of sticking some JB Weld on/in the crack and leaving it at that - opinions?

  2. Weld it properly or just ignore it.

  3. I'd get it ally welded . Would be easy enough and far better than any other solution, it'll be good for years ...
Magic metal has its uses but not for that repair !

  5. The heads seem in great nick (or did!) so perhaps you're right that I should do it properly and have the crack welded. Do you know what type of alloy it is for welding?

    Leave it alone.
    Use it.
    Feel sad.
If the fin falls off it was going to.

Is that spark plug Helicoiled ?

If it is you now have two excuses to buy some nice shiny 041 style EMPI heads with stainless valves. Which are better than OG at getting air into the engine. .
