Is there any recourse one could use?

I paid on the credit card - can they help?

Wheel nuts not done up on drivers side and wrong oil filter used - it was the right one but as I have a sandwich plate a shorter one should have been used rather than a long one. A shorter one was taken off so you'd of thought that might have made them think. That and the fact it was about an inch sticking out lower than the engine!

I don't think there is anything that one can do but thought I'd ask. (Apart from organising his legs to be broken!)

    Card protection on purchases?

  5. Credit card claims have to be made within 120 days, and be over £100. That is all I know. As I tried once myself !!!

Just put it down to a bad experience and don't go back. Suppose you could take them to small claims court but is it worth the hassle. Have you confronted them about it?

I did but he denied even taken wheels off.... After a service and even me asking them to do a through brake check - which they didn't as it pulls to one side as I brake!

I'm within that time period. Might give them a call and see what they say.

    Won't hold my breath though

  10. Wheel nuts is abit school boy error but could you not have done the oil change yourself mate?

I have posted the name of garage on here somewhere.

Have posted it here regarding my wheel issue but not mentioned the brakes/oil filter yet.

I only used him as HD was local and didn't get a chance to get to @zed before our hols across France.

Didn't have time mate otherwise I would have done oil/ filter but wanted a full service and brakes going over.

Will just make sure I have a long weekend over zeds way and pop in to him.

  14. Ahh rite, well I'm not the first to trust dodgy peoples work and won't be the last either. Atleast you noticed yours before anything bad happened. There's a plus side for you buddy :)

    Not quite.

Oil filter hit kerb snapped of oil filter head thingy and was the cause of a mini strip down.

If yours is a type four engine then I had a choice of the short and long filters from GSF when I did my last service. They both fit perfectly so I decided to go for the longer one for a couple of reasons. The first is that it sticks out an inch or so below the engine. Not enough to be a problem but enough to use a strap wrench on when you come to remove it. I struggled mightily to remove a short one because the access is so bad if its tucked up in the engine.
The second reason is that the longer filter probably has more 'filter' in which must be good but it also sticks into the airstream under the van which must help with cooling a little bit.

Oil filters should be hand tight only anyway so if its done regularly you shouldn't need a strap.

It was the sticking out that caused this problem and urge you to change yours to the shorter one - big problems if you ever do what I did and your looking at a days work at best to strip it all down and put back together again.

  18. But don't yours worse because you have an extra oil cooler sandwhich plate in there?

  19. Sorry to hear you've had problems.

I take it you've spoken to the garage concerned and explained your dissatisfaction/ given them an opportunity to resolve it before disputing it with your credit card provider?
