One of the funniest books I have is a "Brush up your Pidgin" book in which all of the words are introduced in the context of the descent of a European and his wife from worrying about the bank account and credit cards into "going native" It's by Dorgan Rushton, who is/was William Rushtons brother so the illustrations by William are brilliant. There are quite a few places where Pidgin is the basis of the local common language - Indonesia and the Philippines for instance
