Courier needed - large item

  1. Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked hundreds of times before, but I'm struggling.
After lots of searching, I've sourced a pair of solid, RHD front chassis legs for my bus ;D
Now I need to get a courier to move them at reasonable cost to me about 250 miles up the country.

I've tried Paisley, as my research suggested that they were the way to go, they won't do it unless I use their pallet service, even if, when wrapped the parcel is within the dimensions allowed for services that they offer at a quarter of the price - they won't give me a reason, just say no ::) The pallet price is nearly £90 as its based on a weight of up to 950Kg!!

I know that I have purchased large items from a vw importer in South Wales and was impressed by the courier cost (about £25), and ClassicVW quoted me £25 delivery if I got the chassis legs off them (I was going to, but then stumbled over these for cheaper)

Help please, my bus has already been in the garage for a year - I need these asap, I want to use it this spring/summer.

    Many thanks, Simon

tbh £90 isn't bad , the last one i use - pallet line charged me £70 to take a ride on lawnmower to the Herbride's from the West Midlands but it was 2 years ago !

  3. Any idea what couriers ClassicVW use and the guys in South Wales (forgotten their name :-[), the guys that import both full campers and rare rust free items from dry states in the US?

Surely if they can offer delivery at such good value, there must be better options out there, even if they get a discount for bulk use?

Why don't you google them and give them a ring , they may tell you !

  5. Have you tried just booking it on line with paisley freight.? They are normally very good, the only thing they don't do is insure car parts unless it is sent via a pallet, are you sure that, that isn't what has been said....

Other than them, don't know, as they are who we would of recommended too.

  6. Thanks for the replies.

I've tried contacting Scott (Classic VW) via PM on here - no response as yet though.

I've been emailing Paisley for a while, mails bouncing to and fro. I can't be sure of the weight of the item and only have an estimate from the guy I'm purchasing off. With this in mind, I contacted Paisley rather than simply booking the service. They then asked what the item was and once I told them (with the aid of a picture), they said that they couldn't move it.
I responded asking it it would be possible to move it if it was wrapped and on a pallet. They then said that they could but only on the pallet service, not on the way cheaper parcel service.

i can't really help other than to say i'm glad i work in warehousing....
i pay £24.15 for a 1/4 pallet which is upto 1 metre tall and 250kg
    £33.19 for 1/2 pall over 1m and upto 500kg
and £44.10 for anything over 500kg.

i use palletforce http://palletforce.com/ you might get a cheaper price off them, you won't get my prices of course as it's cheaper if you have an account but it may help.
