It looks like there’s a postal strike on the forum so? Do you live in the country side or city? I’ve done both lived in the country side unfortunately there was only one YTS Village idiot job going so moved to the best city in the world well you know. Question would you move back to the country side or suberbs. What do you miss and what don’t you? Geord.
We're on the suburbs of Nottingham, if you can call us suburbs as we're 12 miles from the city centre but its pretty much houses/towns all the way to the city. Lucky for us we have a small country park with deer living in the trees just over half a mile away, in 15 mins we can be at Hardwick Hall or an hour and we are in The Peak District or Rufford Park / Clumber Park in 20 mins. Ultimately we would like to move near Whitby but that's not for a while
Tree dwelling deer ... Now that is something I'd like to see! My Bro lives in Mapperly. Ever been to Papplewick pumping station? A "secret" Victorian engineering treasure
I have come to the conclusion, over the years, that he’s a total knob anyway. Notwithstanding how great the early PiL stuff was ( Metal Box) , he’s an arse.
Took 38 years to get out of London ... that's London proper as in ten years of school, college and art school all within sight of or short walking distance of the river, which is London's saving grace, and was great ... but living in the 'urbs like Barnet and Finsbury Park which was only good for two things: striking distance of Camden Town, and reading backwards as "crappy rub sniff" I think age is the main factor. At 58 you wouldn't catch me cycling across and around the city now, and up to around 30 I would never have said the quiet and rolling hills of Gloucestershire were for me! Go back? Nope, not to live, only every couple of weeks to hook up with my Dad who turned 90 last week and still loves the old smoke.
Should have put living among the trees We're not far from Mapperley, 15 mins away ish. Never been to Papplewick Pumping station, I'll have to go when its operating and have a looksy
Border of the peak park runs through the ridge line of our house, I tend to sit on the other side to avoid peak park rules
though i've never done city living actually in a city, i have found myself living in leeds, nottingham, bristol, antwerp and plymouth over the years. but i think that was because i was younger and liked the hubbub (i tried london for two weeks, didn't like it). Country, village or beach life is for me now
If you've got kids you might get to see that much more by gatecrashing my Bro and Sister-in-Law's T I E show that's running on and off (no pun intended) there for schools ...
