im thinking about bidding on a westie ....but the money i have is for a new work van . do you think it would be ok to fit the panel van with a propex heater and use it for work ? this is the westie , its 1 mile from me http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270801778590?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Very nice and I'll be very envious if you have 2 buses!!! To answer your question, hell why not. They were once used as vans when new before we all loved them and threw money at them like we all do now.
I don't see why not. We use our panel van as a works van (not just for going to shows). We decided to put a standard 2.0 Scooby engine in it though which helps with the performance but also the fuel consumption.
My pickup is my workvan I could easierly buy something newer but prefer the pickup....But we are a bit behind in France..
iv spoken to my insurance firm this morn and they say I won't recieve anything until later next week bang goes the westie idea , but I could always find something else . Still not sure it's a good idea though
Iv used an old VW for building work for the same reason I didnt want to sell it but it got wreaked in one winter it just was not fit for that sort of milage It was just hassle. I know people say they are commercial vehicles and thats what they should be used for but 30 years on every car has its problems and the are just not as tough as they would have been when they rolled off the line The last thing you want to be doing after a hard day at work is come home and rinse salt off the bottom of your bus and if you dont it will rot like hell. You can waxoyl all you like but the damp will set in in the end. Also every time I put something in in it I damaged something. After so many years things become brittle. I was forever breaking down and had to spend my weekend fixing it. The fuel consumption was terrible plus constantly buying parts. So you can use them as a daily but would I ever again, NO But I do truly respect any one that is dedicated enough to do so. Saying that Bigrich off here drives a bay as a daily. But he also works for Coolair which probably helps MOT time
Mate I just read that back and realized how negative it sounds. Sorry it was just hard work at the time and I thought I should pass on the experience
Depends what you do for a living but if it was me get a T4 and have done with it - they run for miles and will serve you well.
More importantly will your accountant let you get away with it? I have a friend in the same boat who is looking to get a crew cab.
you could always buy a new panel van and use that not quite as cool as a air cooled but at least it will look the part and have a engine that should return a reasonable mpg edit just been on their site £23,445 for a new one at least you can claim some of it back against tax
