Correct 1976 fresh air flap operating arm?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by allibus, Mar 2, 2017.

  1. I'm trying to attach the flap operating arm to the fresh air leaver (blue). I thought I had found the right one but I can't get it to operate properly.

I have a three leaver set up; one blue as this operates both left and right flaps. Aussie 1976 2.0 type 4

Does anyone have a picture of their 3 leaver set up?
This is the linking arm I have.

I found this picture online and I can see how it would overcome the pivoting to get it fully closed but - it doesn't look OEM and the operating leaver is much closer than mine :(. It is the same flap set up though.

  2. Have you tried changine the length of it with the adjuster?

  3. Or adjusting the grungle pins on the other end?

  4. Or hammering a smaller flap over the ones pictured?

    Crispy and snotty like this.
  5. After making sure that the dihedral flange is adequately secured with badger pins, of course.

  6. The two flap shafts are joined in the middle by a plastic piece 28B (which easily breaks), so operating one moves the other.

  7. Hi ,

I have some pictures that might help. this is a LHD setup with 3 levers. In my 1973 VW T2B doka both flaps are operated directly by a iron rod like No 33 in above scheme.

  8. Excellent @DOKA '73 ! Thanks very much that explains a lot.

I guess I have a mixture of parts as my operating leaver isn't the same as this.

However it does give me an idea of how to adapt it :D

I knew TLB would get to the answer eventually
