cooling/tins ??

  1. Hi all, question if you don't mind, I have a T2 under restoration with a Type 4 motor. When the engine builder rebuilt the engine he did not fit the tin work between the push rods and the barrels, does this cause cooling problems. An additional point is that the headers have been replaced and don't have the heat exchanges on them, considering this does it need the outer times?

    Thanks!

  3. In everything I’ve read it’s always been recommended to fit these. IMO

  4. Yes! The air deflectors under the cylinders are probably the most important bit of tin.

Why were they not fitted ...did he not have them . this engine builder really should have known better and should have talked to you about them being missing , and to source some .

Ah so it's out the motor ..well thats alright get all of the tins ...check out what's missing and get them all . Look on the tin ware diagrams in manuals or on the net .
There is a guy sells allsorts called VW parts emporium ...has a lot of tin ware for sale or Megabug .
Parts emporium geezer is somewhere near Hitchin on the Bedfordshire border i think .
