  1. Cooling fan !

Hi guys, had my generator light come on the other day so I have replaced my external regulator on my alternator and seems to have done the trick, however I’m getting a loud noise coming from the tin ware assuming the cooling fan. I’ve ordered a new cooling fan but I noticed the other day my alternator strap has become really loose and probably snapped. Before replacing the cooling fan do you think the strap failing can cause the alternator to move slightly therefore allowing the fan to hit the housing ? I’m trying to avoid alternator removal and checking fan and shims. Has anyone had this before ??

    Many thanks

  2. Possible. The alt does need to be lashed down.

  3. Thank you i think a lot of these issues are logic and I did think that could be the cause

Guys, there is a thread in Mech Tech so, instead of having various helpful responses in multiple locations, I'll lock this one..
